Beyond
the obvious dangers of fire and electrocution, lightning creates new
hazards for modern technologies. Electronic systems now perform many
critical tasks for commerce, industry and government. These systems
include sensitive, solid-state electronics that may be upset or damaged
by lightning-induced surges - even from strikes kilometers away.
The use of sensitive electronics and new structural materials, such
as composites, forces us to re-evaluate lightning protection
engineering. Since 1977, we at Lightning Technologies, Inc. (LTI) have
been devoted to eliminating lightning hazards to advanced systems
through research, development, engineering and testing services.
Our company is known internationally, especially for work in the
development and certification of lightning protection for aircraft and
other complex systems. Our clients include most of the world's major
airframe and aerospace equipment manufacturers, as well as a wide range
of others in fields such as petroleum products, utilities,
telecommunications, space launch complexes, commercial electronics and
recreational facilities. Our engineers are leaders in the development
of new lightning protection standards and verification test methods.
We maintain one of the most well-equipped lightning simulation and
test laboratories in the world. Used to develop protection methods for
a wide variety of building materials, electronic and telecommunication
equipment, the laboratory also performs lightning verification tests
required by the world's airworthiness certification authorities.
In addition to the development of lightning protection for aircraft,
Lightning Technologies, Inc. has used its laboratory to
develop and test protection methods for a wide variety of devices and
materials such as building materials, and electronic and
telecommunication equipment.
Since we are not a manufacturer of lightning protection products, we
can maintain an objective approach to protection design. We employ
straightforward engineering methods based upon sound physics, while
avoiding expensive and unproven proprietary lightning protection
products.
In addition to engineering and testing services, we provide consulting
and accident investigation services and conduct a regular schedule
of professional education seminars.
